Choosing the right gift for a loved one, no matter what the occasion, can be a difficult process. It is hard to assume what others like and dislike, everybody has different tastes. It can even be a challenge to find the proper gift for a baptism or confirmation. However, our fine selection of religious gifts makes that task much easier. Sometimes we tend to get caught up in our quest for the perfect gift, and in doing so perhaps lose sight of the beauty of giving. This might be the ideal time to gently remind all that it is better to give than to receive.

In every act of obedience there is the recognition that a higher authority exists in our lives, and this authority is entitled to our honor and respect. It is in the act of giving that we submit to God’s Lordship. And it is within this Lordship where we need to remember that we are in a place of great safety.

The biggest deterrent to giving is fear. We fear that if we give too much, we won’t have anything left for ourselves. When we give beyond what is comfortable to us, we are expressing our faith as well as trust that God will provide for us and our family.

Giving in the proper spirit is in itself an act of worship. What you are saying is here is a small token of my appreciation for all you have done for me. Your gift is an expression of love as well as gratitude.
